Default True duals vs ?

This is just a discussion, don't take anything personal . . .

I've always been a fan of 2-into-1's and 2-1-2's. I've found I could always achieve what I wanted with either one. Weather it's top end HP or bottom end torque either of those will compliment the build with the correct baffles, tuning, cam, etc.

I understand straight (drag) pipes are great for top end horse power if that's your thing. Technically drag pipes are 'true duels'.

What about this true dual setup below? Are they as versatile as 2-1-2?

X, or merge pipes (crossover) tend to be easier to tune and have a flat power band. You may get more peak power out of a good true dual exhaust, but that stuff is only good for dyno shoot outs and drag racing and not so much for an everyday driver street bike.

For Manners... Crossover (crosstube) staggered duals!!! Nothing wrong with 2-1 at all...very versatile.. and for horsepower, Thunderheader is tough to beat.
Far as I can tell "True Duals" is all about marketing.. Strong Marketing!! As said, drag pipes as well as Any aftermarket staggered duals is same same, with some aftermarket staggered duals being exceptional !!

Choke on the price and end caps are extra... I don't think a stepped pipe would be good for your 80" Evo..... If I had your bike I would get a decent 2-1-2.. I don't think you will see or feel any difference between that and a 2-1..
I would look on eBay for a good used OEM take off...

Not an Evo but my somewhat limited experience with Twin Cam systems.

I ran Rinehart TDs on a built all bore 107 motor in my '02 FLHT. I got tired of the heat from the rear cylinder down pipe and converted exhaust to the later cross under system and replace the exhaust with FM 2:1:1 X pipe with 4.5" Jackpot mufflers. Forget the numbers but, IIRC, picked up 10 TQ and dropped 2 HP.

As for TDs the Bassani Prostreets will perform as well as most 2:1 systems and sounds much better at cruise. I have found the "drone" from several 2:1 systems annoying cruising at 70-75mph. When I built the 98" motor in my '05 FXSTD, we ran the Prostreets against a Python 3 and an early Fatcat and the Prostreets came out on top; that motor made 115/115. I did want to try the Rush Wrath but we couldn't get our hands on one.

Going to pass on that price. Have a set of OEM pipes with SE slip on's currently on a 103", they do well for intended purpose.

Had a set of Rinehart TD's on a 80" and currently TD's on the 80" Shovel, just don't like the flat sound coming out the left pipe at idle, mufflers are separated enough at the rear to where individual pulse is heard, right side chops, left side sucks.

Love the old 2-1 Propipe for tunability and the 1st generation stepped 3" Dragula on the White Bike walks the walk

I'm currently running oem SE pipes on my '92 FLHS. Had to weld up the crack on the right side which is common. Don't plan on changing them.

Been discussing this with a friend who just got his first Shovelhead. I know his riding style and I don't think he will like the drag pipes that are on it. Bike needs a LOT of work before it's running.

I've also been looking for my next project bike and started asking myself if I would keep true duels that come on a touring model.
