Default .030" cam end play from factory?

This is the cam end play I am measuring in my 1998 ultra classic FLHTCUI EVO with round stock thrust washer (25550-57a) and no shim. All I have done is install a new cam bearing and cam/gear cover. The smallest shim I have is .050" which is too wide for me to get the ideal cam end play. However, the .030" cam end play I am getting is in spec per the book. I think the max spec is something like .050" max end play.
You think Harley QC let this .030" end play go?
It looks like I need to find thicker cam cover gaskets to fix this. Something like a .070" thick gasket
MY current HD gasket measures .035 and I have taken the crush into account.
What would you do?

I have seen that many times - what we did you dont have the tooling to do - its called a surface grinder - we take another inner plate and spilt the difference grind both to what ever so we have .012 in the end play with the oil gasket that is thinner then the new one then install the new gasket

if you just grind one its too thin and its not a good spacer its prone to fail by getting hot and reducing its size shedding metal

After '90 or thereabouts, the cams were longer and the factory end play called for .050 - .010.

If you buy an after market cam you have to start with at least .050 spacer and usually need more. After market sells cam shims in various thickness. If you're using the original cam and have .035 end play, run it.

My experience (and the advice from my Indy) is that end play really isn't a biggie, more than 3 thou and less than 50 thou is about right, you can't feel or hear the difference.
