One little bit of advice: Take notes. Almost like a journal of "what did I do to the bike today". Even if you just enter them into the computer like writing a book, make notes or entries on when and what was done, what brand and type of product used, where you got the part from (even the part number) and how much you paid, anything different you had to do, etc. You will eventually want to refer back to those notes. Trust me...it will become a valuable tool.

Did that with the restoration of my old Ford F100. Was just as important as the service manual regarding info I put in there. You will be amazed at 1) what you eventually forget, 2) how often you refer back to the notes, and 3) if you ever go to sell the bike, that journal/notebook will help sell the bike. It will even increase the value of the bike. All it takes is a few minutes in the evening when the wrenching is done. Well worth the few minutes of time.
This is really good advice. You might even wanna take the pictures from this thread and save them. When I rebuilt my 90 Softtail that was soon after stolen, I did exactly what is being mentioned to in this post. I documented everything I did to that 1990. When the bike was stolen, I sent those notes to the insurance company and that is exactly why they paid me a huge payout. It wasn’t just the cost of the parts they recognize the labor involved. They paid me a little over three times what that 1990 Springer was actually worth. But it was largely because of all of the labor associated with everything that I did. You’ll wanna save that in your records in case anything were to ever happen to the bike.

Your build is really looking great. I admire your hard work and tenacity.

I’ll just make mention about those gorgeous looking fishtail pipes put on there. You spent a lot of money on pistons, head porting and Cam, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but those pipes will rob a lot of power. Like to the tune of 10 to 20 hp, and I’m not kidding.

I’ll share a couple little secrets with you, up to you if you want to do them. From the back of your closed exhaust valve, you want the pipe length to be equal and you want them to be a particular mathematical length, that complements one of the pulse waves of your valve closing. All that means is you might wanna go a tiny bit longer or a tiny bit shorter with your pipe length. I extended mine underneath the rear floorboards so you can’t see it.

Next and you might not like this. Take an exhaust tube expander. You can get them cheap on Amazon. And you wanna open the fishtail up very slowly while putting a little heat on it so it doesn’t crack. You want to open the fishtail up, so it’s the exact same diameter as your pipe. You will be shocked what a difference that will make everywhere throughout the RPM band for power. And it’ll sound more like drag pipes than fishtails.

i’m pretty devastated about losing my super long fishtails on my 113 and my road king. I thought they looked amazingly cool. But they just robbed so so much power. So the mathematical equation from my valve closing put me on a pulse where my pipes needed to be 68 and three-quarter inches long. So that’s exactly what I did. It made a substantial difference in power. But then when I opened the fishtails up, it was like I added a turbo charger. That big fat 800 pound girl keeps up with triumph RS’s and Z900’s now.

when I’m home, I’ll run the formula for you and let you know what links would match different pulses. After that, it’s up to you whether or not you want to do it or you just don’t care.

they are gorgeous just the way they are.

So one pulse is 43.5 inches long headers… another pulse would call for 63 1/4” either of these two length would help performance, open the tails.. and install TTI’s with no baffles and you’ll make lots of good power.

Almost there guys, things left to do are wire up the bars, put the cables on, rebuild the calipers and bleed the brakes, set the timing and it’s party time.
