My Brother-in-law Glenn passed away last year. This was his 95 Road King. I bought it from his wife yesterday. It was not running, and had been sitting up for quite a while. Glenn loved to ride in his younger days, and was a bit of a wild man in his youth. As he got older, cancer got hold of him and would not let him loose. Despite his weakened state, he tried to ride one last time and dropped it, snapping off the passenger footboard. That was about a year before he passed. I have gotten it started and running, now I want to restore it to like new condition.
Glenn was a proud Vietnam era vet and was an avid short track drag racer. He was known for always tinkering on engines of all kinds, and the nickname “Tinkerman” soon became his. Long live the Tinkerman!
She’s looking pretty with new whitewalls! Took her out for about a hundred miles today. Now it’s time to get familiar with the detailing section of the forum
Photo of what the floor board looks like (if basic or screaming eagle chrome design), since may have only snapped the 25 or 35 and just it needs to be replaced alone.
Hence there are few different floor boards from basic up to fancy that can be hard to fiind, and if it still fine, and just bracket or back plate that is snapped, easy to just pick up that part to replace alone.
Fix it up and ride it! It's what your brother in law would have wanted. Think of him smiling when it's all back together, running good and him watching you cruise on down the road with it!
Well it’s been some ups and downs, but I think it’s headed in the right direction. I thought I had some mystery electrical issue, but it was only a loose connection between the battery and starter. New battery, tires, fork seals, fluids and she’s running and now safe. Old tires were 22 years old! New tires are whitewalls and they look great. Tomorrow we will have a decent ride to pick up some parts to make her look pretty again! Pics coming soon.
