'87 Softail, kickonly, small battery vs stock charging system
I have an '87 Softail, kickonly, small 2,3 Ah battery, Dyna S single fire, stock charging system and standard lights.
My concern is that the stock charging system will fried my small battery.
When battery is charged (maybe at 15V..), regulator stops charging and route the current to the ground. This means my small battery cannot be fried. So far, so good.
But, considering the time period when battery is charged, the charging amps/hour rate could be much higher than recomended for my small battery. Because the stock battery has 19 Ah, maybe the stock charging amps/hour rate is 2 amps/hour. This is probably too much for my small 2,3 Ah battery and it could affect its life span.
Or, where am I wrong?
Thanks
Marcel
Stock 22 amp system will run it all well.
Be sure the contacts at the engine case are perfectly clean and that the factory or other hold-down for the regulator plug is there and snug. Also, the regulator body must me grounded to the frame very well.
Keep 3 sides of the battery away from the oil tank and always have it bolted down securely.
