Some punk kids (im assuming they were kids) stole my 79 ironhead chopper one day years back. Id left it parked outside my flat for a couple of hours as I usually do but when I came back it had disappeared. I called the cops to report it and started frantically looking all over the nearby area. Eventually one of the cops came to my door that afternoon and said they had found it dumped behind a building about a mile away. Looked like they slammed a screwdriver in the key ignition but didnt know to turn on the fuel petcock so ran it out of gas pretty quickly.

It was pretty beat up cosmetically and it looked like they had just decided to smash it up after it wouldnt go any further. I was just pleased to have it back as I knew I could fix it back up to its former glory. However the cops wanted to take it to their impound for fingerprint dusting and said I could collect it a few days later. I agreed and finally got a call a few days later to say I could pick it up but there would be a charge to pay or I wouldnt get the bike back. It turns out the cops wanted to charge me for vehicle uplift, transport to and storage at the impound before they released it. It came to around Ł200!! I couldnt believe I got scammed by the guys who were supposed to help and the cost was more than it took to repair the damage to the bike. It left a real bitter taste in my mouth. I later found out this was a regular cash grab used by the cops when they found stolen recovered vehicles as they owned the impound and the tow truck. The thieves were never caught and Il bet no work was ever done to find them.

My first motorcycle was an '87 883 that had 10k on it. Had 63k when I finally had to sell it. I would tear it down every winter and change the paint up, freshen any bad parts and polish the aluminum. Landlords were never too happy about a motorcycle in my apartment! I still look at every '87 sportster listed to see if it is Serenity. So far, haven't seen her.

I can't find the handful of pics I had in a box either. Makes me sad when I think about her.
