I will try that just for the hell of it but I know the difference that my belt makes and my belt has been a good boy lately but the sound is coming from further up front
If you sure that's not it, check chain tension. Chain may be loose and they an make a chirp when kitting the inner. Worst case, alternator rotor cracked. That's unusual, but I've seen a couple over years.
Had an exhaust heat shield clamp make that noise every once in awhile.
The excess tab of the worm clamp that holds the heat shield to the head pipe was just so slightly rubbing making a chirp at that just perfect RPM. Had to just bend that little excess tab away from the underside of the heat shield and gone forever. If you think it sounds more like it's coming from the left side, don't discount that the noise is coming from the right side. It's funny how the sound bounces around from one side to another.
As far as compensators, I have always been told, that other than obvious wear to the part that you can see, if you shake it and it rattles, it is done.
I’ve noticed a constant sound chirping on rides before..very distracting from the needed wind therapy. I started trouble shooting the issue one variable at a time. I didn’t solve the constant sound but I did diagnose its origin and now understand and try to just be patient and tune it out while riding.
If I really wanted to remove the constant sound I’d tell Mrs. Rainss she can’t talk or ride with me anymore or buy a more sound proof helmet.
