Default Headlight Adjustment

I bought a 1992 FXR that has basically been stripped to the frame, redone and lowered. The problem I am having is that the headlight is way, way out of adjustment (low-beam doesn't come close to hitting the road). I've pulled the cover off to see if there was a way to adjust it, but haven't seen anything. Am I missing something?? It is mounted to a plate that is then mounted to the top of the triple-tree. Can anyone help??

Pull the circular cover off the top of the mount and there will be a nut that you will loosen, adjust the headlight up or down to get the angle you want. This picture shows the mount with the cover off of it. I use a small knife to remove the cover being careful not to dig into the aluminum, it scratches easily.

I found what you are talking about. I loosened the nut and moved the light down, but when I go to tighten the nut back up, the light moves back to where it was??

Well, I got it to stay down.... One other thing I realized was when I bought the bike, we had them put stock springs back in the front, but left the rear lowered... so I'm thinking that the lowered rear end is causing the headlight to still be a little too high. Would it be ok to maybe flatten out the front of the washer so the headlight can go down a little more??
