I started getting into this bike, the original problem why the bike was layed up so long is the inner primary cracked the lip were the IPB and seal is. The PO had the lip welded, but was never finished so its just glob of weld there, and they also touched were the jackshaft goes but once again never finished. He bought a brand new chrome inner primary, but its for an FXE chain final, Ive realized the inner primary I have is a very rare item, and good used replacements are super expensive like $600 Ive seen.
I was thinking I really hate to lose the kickstart because it makes this bike kinda unique, but, I have a ton of newer stuff from my softail, extra clutch, inner outter primarys, 1998 starter. I also see an individual selling a softail trans for $300 so I may just swap it all over as most of my original FX parts are not in good shape (chrome) the outter primary cover looks terrible, and dont want to spend almost $1000 on primary covers. And at the end of the day it gets rid of that god awful first design diaphragm spring taper shaft clutch.
