Default Lifters, noise

Got a 1998 Road king with 42000 on it, just bought it and its had adjustable push rods installed and I think it still has the stock lifers. Question is after a few mins of riding its got a (sounds like but more metalic) lifter tap thats worse at some rpm's vs others. I replaced the lifters and still had the noise. Anybody here ever have to replace the lifter block itself? It does sport some wear marks.

Thanks in advance!

If sommeone had put the adjustable pushrods in, they probably had replaced the lifters and possibly the cam. I have found that most non stock cams in Evo's tend to have more of a rattle. One thing you can try is take the inner pushrod tube(the one that goes into the head) and cut app.3/4" off of them. What happens, especially on the front exh. tube, because the front pushrod is the longest, the fat pushrod or theadjusting nut sometimes will hit the inside of the tube. I have the same noise in my 95 evo, sounds like a 327/365 chevy solid lifter motor. I run a 569/236 vthunder cam and lifters w/adj. pushrods. If your pushrods are adjusted right, there shouldn't be a problem.

I did the cutting of the inside tube of the front covers, did nothing to help. I eventually replaced the high lift cam I had with a less agressive cam and put stock push rods on the front cylinder, problem solved, I have a nice torquey cam, no valve train noise, on a 55k mile bike.

That makes sense, I pulled the front push rod out and it had a wear ring where it contacted the top of the inner tube. I used a dremel and chamfered it losing one of the noises it was making.

I'll give the inner tube shortening a try.

Thanks!

Glad I could help. Thats what I like about this forum. You can get help from a lot of good people. Sometimes you have to take all the advise a pick the one that best suits your problem and go from there. Not all fixes are the same. I've spent enough time over the years fixing everything but the problem, so when I figure something out, I don't mind sharing info.
