Hey guys, what should I expect from putting in the EV27 cam? i'm also putting in the self adjusting S&S push rods.
A big goofy grin.
I seem to get a little less gas mileage, but it's not much, maybe a couple miles a gallon, might be because I twist the trottle more often. You will love the lope sound it will give the exhaust, sounds like a hotrod.
I'm starting to grin, also what do you think do I have to switch the Torrington bearing Iv'e been reading about in these other threads?
She has a Hypercharger for air and super flow exhaust mufflers and a DFO to dail her in when she goes in.
Shooter64 providing the cam and pushrods.
I'm just now learning about my EVO since I'm doing pistons and cam right now, should be running tomorrow. I'm doing all the work myself. I would highly recommend changingthat bearing. I got mine from George's garage off ebay, it was only $6 shipped. The stock bearing is basically missing half the needles, it's made that way but that is what it looks like. The new one has twice the needles. My cousin had a snap on puller that I think was possible made for pulley pilot bearings out of an automotive crankshaft but it worked out perfectly. I drove the new one in with the old cam.
Absolutely chage to the torrington bearing, the original bearing is a know week point. If you have more than 30k on the motor, it's a good idea to get new lifters too.
I changed my bearing when I went to the EV27......and put in new lifters too.....I bought the bike used so now I know whats in it. Got the Andrews adjustables which are great........Go to AutoZone and rent a Blind Hole puller. It does the job perfect and you get your money back too......Gas mileage went down maybe a mile per gal......not much but it is sure fun to ride now
Here's a step by step with pics and everything. Do the Autozone rental to pull the bearing and use the old cam to put the bearing in. Make sure you let the lifters bleed down for 10 to 15 min between each zero lash adjustment. Take your time with this step and run through a couple of complete combustion cycles, checking 0 lash and waiting for bleed down before the final adjustment on the pushrods.
Changing the bearing is an absolute must. The stock INA bearing has been known to fail even in a stock engine. Also agree with changing the lifters; do not use OEM lifters, replace with a name brand aftermarket set like Crane or Jim's. I've had two lifters fail, luckily with no real damage other than scoring the cam lobe, but a failed lifter can do major damage to the engine.
The EV27 has pretty steep ramps so you might hear more valvetrain noise.
