A good first bike???? Hell ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!After ya get one you'll understand, right away.Especially if it is near stock condition. I have seen a few here in Oregon that go for $7-9000.

as stated above, the softail was 4 speed, kickstart, chain drive in 84 and 85. I bought my 85 FXWG just because it had the belt final drive. now I'm happy to have the FXWG because softails are so common.

Great minds think alike. I added a pic of my '85 WG to the post. Except for the blinker and soft bags they look real similar. Like you said easy to work on and it always got me home when on long trips.
