primary oil
ORIGINAL: Fossil
Why experiment with oils? Simply use what Harley recommends and be sure you have the right stuff in the bike. Synthetic oils are great but not for an older high mileage bike. Petroleum and the biproducts of combustion forms a sludge that is trapped against seals. Synthetic runs very clean and will clean off that small amount of sludge. Then you can have leaks as the sludge actually helped the old seal stay dry. Harley's Formula oil for primary/transmission is good for 10K miles or one year. Fossil

One of the top ten oil myths.
I just run the hd formula + and don't look back. Why worry since i am not an oilologist. 5 bucks a quart isn't going to break me since gas is 3.50 any way. But i have run atf type f before when booze was more important than my bike, and saw no change in performance. I guess i'm just lazy. just my .02 Kent
