Default Jetting a carb

My bike needs a bigger main jet, so I bought the carb recalibration kit from dennis kirk, when i opened the carb it appeared that the PO already installed it. Is anyone familiar with these? The biggest main jet it comes with is a 180, which was already in the bike, and stock jets don't fit the jet holder the kit comes with. I need a 185 or a 190 jet but can't find one. Dennis kirk states it is a drag specialties jet kit, but the drag specialties main jets they sell don't fit the holder that comes with the kit. Can anyone tell me where to get jets to fit?

Looks like your best bet will be to drop in on your friendly indy shop and ask. Take the jet holder with you.

If you're running an 80" Evo, its doubtful you need a larger main jet.

check out http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hdbuildstage1.htm for more info on jetting stock Keihn carbs.

Listen to these guys, you should give this setup a whirl to see how the motor reacts to the present jetting, then take a reading on your plugs.

First, what is the problem you are having that makes you think you need a larger main jet then a 180?

Bikes kind of flat with a open throttle, it doesn't pull like it should. When I do the "seat of the pants" test described on the night rider page, wide open throttle, chop it back 1/8 I get a bit of a surge. The bike runs OK otherwise, but that's why I opened the carb up in the first place. I'm at a bit of a disadvantage since I bought it from a dealer and I don't know what the PO did to it. For AllI know it's got a cam in it, the cam chest was replaced with a chrome one so it's possible a cam was put in at that time. The bike seems to have some good get up and go. It's just aat highway speeds when you twist the throttle it seems like it's lacking.

Id be looking for a vacuum leak, a 180 is plenty of jet for an 80 incher. Its possable they could have put a real radical cam in I suppose thats has a lot of duration like 260 plus and it has no torque down low too. Try to get the name & phone munber of the previous owner to see whats been done to it

Is it possible that the 180 in the jet kit doesn't really correlate to a stock 180 jet?

What's the best way to check for vacuum leaks?
