Default clutch cable replacement

On a 5 speed do you have to remove the outer cover or can you work it all through the hole where the cable screws in?

My "book" doesn't say a word about it - least I didn't find it. Done a lot of engine work, just never had to get into the tranny side.
Thanks!

It is a little bit of a hassle with the exhaust and having to drain the trans fluid, other than that it is pretty straight forward.

Gots to pull the cover. Exhaust will probably be in the way as well. Not a big deal. Replace gaskets while you are at it.

Use a Harley cable if they have one. I used a Custom Chrome one because they didnt and had to run a die over the threads where it screws into the clutch cover because they were plated over. It s bitch to get started with the cable flopping and the angle it screws in. That was my experience anyway, yours may vary

it really not that bad of a job. just did it last week, installed a new cable and mrc easy clutch. back off the cable adjuster then i removed the rear pipe, drained the tranny oil and removed the tranny side cover. the rest is self explanatory. just make sure you fill it back up with oil.
