I highly recommend Metzler's I put a set on my bike about 6000 miles ago and they still look new but more importantly they made my bike handle great, better in the rain and better on worm tracks better all around.

I had the WWW Metzler 880's on our '90 Ultra for about 7000 miles, and went back to Dunlops. The Metzlers did not wear as even as the Dunlops on our bike and actually wore out a little faster than the Dunlops usually wear out. The Meztlers did handle rain grooves and steel grate bridges a little better than the Dunlops but they also would break loose in certain slow speed turns, it would only be an inch or two but I didn't like the feel of the tire slipping. The Metzlers were harder to get, whereas every Harley Dealer has Dunlops in stock. I doubt I ever will get 12,000 miles on a rear tire, most often it's closer to 8,000 but that probably has more to do with the weight we are loading on them.

I have owned my 1990 bike from new. The original Dunlops were pretty awful, The Metzelers I tried were the worst tyres I have ever ridden, on any bike, the Pirellis a little better and Avon Venoms quite brilliant. I am on my second set - British tyres on a British Harley, for riding in British weather!

Kind of funny... a guy asks if anyone knows anything about Michelin tires and most of the replies are about folks liking their Dunlops, Metzler, Avon and Pirelli tires. Funnier still, is that none of the comparisons were to a Michelin!

Oh and hey Chubby... nice work on the "Detailing Course" website!!!

Well, I haven't had Michelins on any of my bikes ever, so I can't compare them. But I can say that I replaced my Dunlops with Continental Milestones this past Spring, and the improvement in ride and handling was quite noticeable. I don't know how long they will last, but I'm approaching 10,000 miles on them and all is still well. There are several alternatives to the Dunlops -- some people on this forum talk as if Dunlop and Metzler were the only two.

Excellent point!

I have done almost half a million miles on bikes and a great many in cars, but never owned a Michelin. There is nothing about them that has ever attracted me to them over the last 43 years, despite the wide variety of bikes and cars I have owned.

The current bike tyres for a Harley that have really made an impression on me are Avon Venoms, which I can heartily recommend! I will shortly replace the Pirellis on my Buell with Avons. Michelin? Nah!
