Default Has anybody tried this?

Has anyone here tried putting a seat off a 97 or newer ElectraGlide onto late eighties electra glide? If so what is involved in making it fit?

I haven't tried, but they changed the arch and front attachment arrangement after 94 or so.

Do a search. Someone on here wondered if you could do it and everyone said no; then they came back and said they did it and it was easy.

I can tell you that I have a '95 Ultra and I now run a '96 Road King (Mustang Solo) seat. No biggie there, but I've become interested in get a newer seat. So... I took my coworker 2002 Road King seat of and slipped it on mine bike. Guess what, it will fit easily. No strange angles or curvature. I also noticed that my seat will fit on his later model bike. It does require one of two modifications, though.

1 - remove the front tab from the late model seat and fabricate a small "loop" and rivet it on. This is the same type of "loop" bracket that my Mustang Solo uses.

2 - Cut a slot in the top of the frame, just behind the fuel tank, just like the later model bikes have.

Personally, I'm going to cut a slot in the frame. That way I can try out plenty of different seats.

Funny thing about using different year model parts. Try it, you'll be suprised what will fit. Sometimes it might require a minor modification, sometimes none at all. Here's some of what I've done, that Harley says will not work.

On my '95 Ultra:
'96 Road King Mustang solo - no modification
'04 Road King mufflers - no modification
'07 Road Glide saddlebag supports - no modification
'07 Street Glide fuel tank console and door - remove insert, drill small countersunk hole, install screw, install new leather insert

On my wife's '09 Deluxe:
Windshield off an '05 Fatboy - no modification

Thanks for the replies, not a whole lot of support from Harley when it comes to our older bikes.
