K&N 171 filter is recommended for a 1993 FLHS evo ( per their on line info )

Agreed, & it lists about all evo softails use the KN-170

I could see a need for the anti-drainback valve on '95 & newer evo baggers, since the oil pan is under the tranny..

That oil pan under the trany started in 1993 (flhs/flhtc etc) If you look back to the 1991 flhs etc (oil tank under the seat ) K&N still calls for a 171 filter ??? I still use CCI's 25-250 oil filter on my 93 FLHS

George-

Ur right.. A friend had a 92 flhs that had the oil tank behind the R saddle bag... Guess that was last year for that location for baggers..

Why those used a KN-171 I have no idea ??

All I know fer sure is the evo softails (according to my local HD) have NO anti-drain back valve.. Personally I don't think it would hurt anyhow..

Thanks for the correction...

- hello to the good Doctor!

- yes , there is indeed a springy/valve thing at the bottom of
a genuine HD filter for my 80 inch EVO mounted on a '96 Heritage Softail.

- but , am not sure whether its an anti-drain-valve , or , a bypass valve.

- if the filter (as Dr. points out) is on the return line , then an anti-drain
valve would be redundant. If so , it'd probably be a bypass valve.

best regards !
