I'm considering purchasing a '97 ultra and I've noticed that the rear wheel is offset quite a bit to the left side of the fender. Shouldn't it be dead centered in the fender?
No, rear tires aren't dead center. I noticed it on my 94 FLSTC and asked my mechanic about it. He gave me an explination that made sence but can't remember what it was. I would assume the same idea with a drive shaft on a vehicle. It has to have some sort of offset to work right.
H-D rarely centers the front or rear wheels perfectly, but how much of an offset are you talking? I just ran out and checked my '97 Road King and it looks very close to center.
I have a 97 ultra and it's in the center. If I were you I would ride the bike
and make sure it handles OK. Have someone follow you to see if it is tracking
straight. I'v had mine 3 years and love it. Good Luck!

On the one I'm looking at, it's EXTREMELY offset. At least 3/4" to the left, maybe a tad more. You don't have to do more than glance at it and it jumps right out at you.
