I have a 98 custom built softail with an 80" evo. Well I tore it apart 2 nights ago. Found an andrews ev3 cam, torrington bearing, adj. pushrods by bender cycle, and dont know what kind of lifters.
Here's my problem. The cam was "walking" in and out. and the bolt for the dyna ignition was rubbing the inside of the timing cover. Easy fix, just needs thicker cam shim to stop the cam walking. So I measure it and it needs about a .080 shim. No problem. BUT..... if I go that large the cam gears will not line up perfectly, nor will the cam lobes and tappet rollers. A local wrench told me that was ok, what do you guys think?
Also, i was thinking about getting the ev27 cam, until I saw that I had an ev3. Has anybody run these 2 cams and can tell which they liked better and why. Thanks.
When you pulled the cam was the lock washer (a washer with wings ) at the back of the cam toward the torrington bearing As you probably know the lock washer goes first then the proper cam spacer then the cam The EV-3/ EV-27 are good for the lighter bikes I like EV-13's in dressers
