Yup...more rocker box leaks. Both cylinder rocker covers have been leaking for a while either between the upper and mid, or mid and lower.
I pulled them off tonight, cleaned 'em up and set them on a piece of double strength glass (I know...it's no granite). The mids were both around .008" with the feeler gauge and the upper covers were around .023".
Has anyone had similar measurements and have some stories to share? Or how about any measurements and stories to share?
Glass will work fine for what you are doing. .003-.005" is about the max that most gaskets will handle with no problem. The rubber rocker box gaskets will tolerate a little more, but .023" is out of the box. It seems lately there are a lot more warped rocker boxes turning up than in the past .
Another question...Are the sealing surfaces on the upper rocker covers supposed to be on the same plane / height?
On mine, the little center square shaped sealing surface (around the square hole in the cover) sits lower than the perimeter sealing surface. This makes the warp feel worse than it actually is when rested on a piece of granite.
