Clutch oddity??
I figured you'd had it out already and probably wasn't the deal (whish it were - easy fix)
Mine was broken for maybe 3- 5 months and I didn't know it. Cable adjustments kept changing back and forth but not enough for concern. I even had the clutches and hub out once replacing the main seal and again for the inner primary seal. That time I just pulled the center plate and hub, basket and all and didn't even know it then. (Mine's old style, tapered shaft - easy to get plates out) It was broken precisely where it's threaded in the plate, so there were just enough threads on both pieces to hold and it was broken in a way that both pieces would turn with the allen wrench. Felt kinda dumb overlooking it so many times..... but chit happens

Adjuster is good, no cracks. Endplay is nill, feels tight.. I looked at the pressure plate for cracks, nuttin...
I'm installing the Baker extra disk kit and adjusting it per the manual this evening.. Not confident that it will fix it, but, we'll see... Anything else on the primary side?

'bout all I can think of Greg. New discs will make a happy difference, I'm sure. Just replaced my discs and plates (first time for the plates ever) while in there for a stator last weekend. It's been "out to the end" on engagement a long time too, even with new spring and discs in the past, but feels really good now... like you want yours to
Keeping my fingers crossed for ya....

.... OK, so, I didnt find anything.. Put the Baker kit in, adjusted it by the manual and the clutch would drag a bit. I adjusted the cable a little tighter and now it dissengages and engages where it used to and doesnt feel like its dragging. But, the cable freeplay at the lever is less than 1/16", depending on how hard you pull on the cable.. I'm thinking thats the reason my original inner plates were burnt. Neutral is a little difficult, but it shifts good, clutch is where I like it (maybe a little tight, but I'm sure it will clearance a bit). Any adjustment recomendations, or should I just ride? I'm a bit curious why its all so tight, the only thing I can think of is the ball ramp actuator, but its stock..
Remember, neutral is only selectable from 1st gear, by design. (I know you knew that, just threw it in for "them")
Again, mine's the older clutch setup... but everytime I take it apart and replace parts or not, adjusted right, and it will gain 1/4 freeplay at the lever within 100 miles - everytime! Have to re-adjust at least once. (not bragging, but I seldom ride less than 100 if I start it up at all)
I've ridden a good number of the later clutches and they each have their own personality. Some have no engage till the end, and others take hold at the grip and continue to engage all the way to the out... I'd ride it, carry wrenches for the cable adjuster, and I'd bet within 100 miles or less you'll be good to go.
And by the way, what is the Baker setup you used. I looked online the other day and didnt see anything that sounded like what you just installed. Discs/plates only or a "trick" pressure plate?

Ok, I must be stupid.... Its a Barnett carbon fiber extra plate kit, not Baker.. I was looking at the Baker Street Performance clutch, then decided to just go with the extra plate kit from "BARNETT" for a fraction of the price... Sorry for the confusion, dont know what I was thinking...
I expect it to break in, but being the first that I've had to put in, with the trouble I had, I thought I'd see what you had to say...
I plan to get a few miles on it this weekend. I'm with you on the 100mi minimum. I get out there an just dont feel like coming back.. Guess thats what its all about..

OK, I"ve got my "special" helmet on today...... Thought I'd give an update...
I imediatly recognized temperature being a factor, but was a bit off on why.. I feel pretty stupid right now, but I can see how I missed it...
Being that its been in the 50's for my morning ride, and 80's for my afternoon ride, I've been wearing my jacket in the morning.. For the ride home, (like I've done 100 times before), I tucked my jacket in the windshield and strapped it down with a bunjie.. Apparently, the 3 days in question, I didnt notice that it pushed against my clutch cable. Yesterday, it did it to me again, and I saw what "I" was doing to cause the strange clutch. By changine the bend on the cable housing, it effectively changes the length of the cable and clutch control...
I thought about just letting it ride and not telling anyone
.. But, it can easily happen to anyone and thought I'd take my lumps in hopes to keep someone else from spending money if they dont have to.. Love my new clutch, but didnt need the new one.. Thanks for the help guys...
