great thread.
Lots of useful comments from what started out as a gripe.
I have been pondering a 127 Ultima for my bagger.
Not for speed , but for torque and long distance riding.
I am prone to 8-10k mile summer trips.
It looks like the best way to go is buy it, tear it down, blueprint and balance it and upgrade some parts.
Hmmmm ..... more to ponder, its it really worth the hassle ?
Ultima now makes a 124 designed more for baggers, I would get that or the 120 instead, I have the 127 myself in a softail the 127 is a tight fit in the rubber glide frame.
Have had a problem the last couple of years, bike seams to run great till it gets 75+ degrees, I can be riding down the road and the engine will stop, pull off to the side of the road, start it up, go a couple of miles and same thing, has original Ultima, by the way it is a 127, ignition.Last night after 4 th stop, it would not start, pulled cone cover off, let it cool down a while, was about 7 pm, rode home. Am told it is probably the ignition module, 3 years old, less than 5,000 miles. Any thoughts, thanks.
Had a similar problem and replaced it with the ultima programable ignition, no problems since.

Just got home and found my Ultima digital ignition system waiting, can a half way inteligent person instal it and is their any particular tricks to programing it ? Thanks
It already has the best curves for the Ultima engines programmed in. Follow the instructions, find TDC front cylinder turn the ignition till the light just goes out set it on curve #1 and ground the VOES wire once you have it running rev it up to over 1500 rpm and check to make sure your at the 2.5 mark on the flywheel with a timing light if it's set right shut it off unground the VOES wire, tape it up and set the switches probably to the 3rd curve and listen to make sure it doesn't ping up a hill with a heavy load, if it does you might have to go to curve 4 if not try curve 2 and make sure it doesn't ping there. You can custom design curves but you have to buy the programming kit with software I have it but find the 4 curves it has work just fine.

Thanks but seeing I don't have a timing light I quess I will just set it per your instruction , less the timing light and see hoe it runs and take it to a shop next week, ride planned for tomarrow, should be good for da weekend ?
Just be real careful when you set it and turn the module back and forth so the light just goes out but make sure when you do it you have spark plugs on the coil wires as it can cause damage if left open circuited, also make sure you have spark to the front plug as it's easy to have them mixed up, set it to single fire.

I am pretty sure I can handle it. With the problems I have encountered w/this bike, I affectionately call it the "Shtbk", and what I have had to do to save money, I should be able to do it. If I run into a problem I will be posting. Thanks for your help and future help. lol

Its almost bedtime over here in the UK. I would take the instructions with you to bed and keep reading them until you fall asleep! Then you should be OK to start work tomorrow....
