just wondered why it seems that the rocker adjustment is so exact on these bikes. on a car you can go from 1/8th to 1 turn without any problems. after all these are hyd. lifters. shouldnt they work like any other hyd. lifter. in other words, 2 turns should work as good as 3 turns, as long as you over tighten them. as soon as the motor starts they should hold the setting, right ?

For one, these Evos "grow" taller when reaching operating temps much more than a car type engine. Second, there are many different threads (threads per inch) of the adjustable pushrods, depending upon the manufacturer.
Evo lifter has approx .200 of travel internally, so you are correct in thinking that (almost) "anywhere" between the top and bottom of the plunger travel should be acceptable. It is. I reckon so many people (self included) have tried to cure a noise by adding adjustables... without success
