trying to find out which lifter is ticking. have double checked turns on adjustables. have tried listening througha piece of wood against rockers to ear. looks like oil goes up push rod and instead of squirting out the top of rocker arm like old cars it seems to route through the rocker arma nd squirts our bushing in rocker arm from pictures and when i had it appart changing heads. anyone every try running with tops off to find the tap with out covering the whole motor with oil.
i think i may have a rocker with too much end play wil have to measure side to side play if that doesnt show any thing i know i used to be able to pin point a noisy lifter on car by pushing on rocker as it ran and you could hear the sound change
Check the rocker assembly end play, a known area for noise. I think S&S makes the shims.
Adjustable p-rods often can be tweeked 1/2 +/- turn from one to another to reduce the clicking. I have seen where all 4 p-rods were at different adjustments. A stethoscope really helps in finding the elusive click.
If you run the motor without the covers, it will get messy.
not good stuff to find front intake roller on bottom of lifter has a small chunk out of it exhaust starting to get a bit of wear. getting 4 new lifters and pulling out 255 cams putting in andrews 32 to match my 10.5;1 piston set up have too much ccp with the 255 with the 10.5;1 pistons anyway. exhaust lobe on cam looks dull also havent even pulled rear appart yet. sure its not much better.
got call from dealer today cams have arrived
Puled cam box appart tonight cleaned all locktight off bolts and tapped holes al parts washed cleaned exhaust off 3 hours to gut the beast
Ready to start putting it together tomorrow night
Didnt find any metal in cam box all bearing surfaces still nice and smooth oil pump in good shaped no gouges in gearotors
Luv to pick up the new high flow oil pump but think im out of play money again
Hope i can pump the new lifters up with an oil hand pump
