New (to me) Evo
Bought a 98 Evo Ultra. Never owned an Evo before, it does bring back memories of knuck, pans, and shovels. Been riding a TC since 04 but missed the feel (Milwalkee Vibrator). My wife wanted to have a dresser for us, she took a 17 years off so our son wouldn't be an orphan. Said that was a big mistake and wants to ride in style. Thanks!!!!
Got some things to fix, no biggy, I know how to work on them. 43K on the clock with all the bells and whistles.
Don't know which section to hang out in though, here or over in touring? More info here for my tourer. Can I stay???

93 fatboy here. Just put 2100 miles on it here about a month ago down to CA and back to OR. Never missed a beat and with two up and both saddle bags full plus a t-bag on the back. Yep, an old EVO is hard to beat. Just like the bunny, keeps on going and going and going. Just keep up on the maintenance and it keep you on the road for a long time.

Really enjoy my Evo and don't let me discourage you, going to list a few problems that are known to occur in your mileage range.
Clutch adjustment starts changing and dragging, clutch center plate coming apart (rivots). 45-50,000 miles. Update clutch with center plate removal type
Lifters, replace with updated lifters at 50,000
Check inner cam bearing for updated bearing, bad, bad deal if it fails.
EFI temp sensor located in front head known to fail, irratic idle, excessive fuel
consumption, running rich
Check the primary chain adjustment, inner cover replacement needed if it
becomes a chainsaw, mine had a chrome inner primary cover on when
purchased 6 years ago @ 36,000, the seller informed me of the money
a loose chain causes
If gear ratio seems a little high, changing primary teeth to make 3.37 from 3.15 won't disapoint you, good time to change the clutch also.
Many 100,000 Evo owners on these forums and no failures, just listing items that seem to fail in the same time frame and please follow my leads with research of your own. Evo problems are usually diagnosed quickly on forums due to owners experiance common failures.
Nice bike, Lifter covers that close together gives your rights of passage to hang out here.

I will keep an eye ball on this. Yes 1st seems high and will keep both in mind when it's clutch time

Probably be going to a bigger cam and will replace all in very near future.

Runs great, no compaints. Smooth for a Harley that's not a twin cam. Got 35 MPG out of the last tank, city and highway, solo, seems about right for a 700+ pound bike
Check the primary chain adjustment,
Does it need checked more often than 2500 miles? When I got it home, opened her up to change/check what is done during an oil change. I like starting with fresh fluids when I buy a machine.

This is first bike with Fuel Injection, going to be a fast learning curve.

No, but no such thing as overmaintance, just an area that is easy to check for peace of mind. Get to thinking about it, I need to check mine.
