Hopefully i'll get a little more input down here in evo land. I have a 99 fxstc, weighs 613 lbs.,Vance & Hines longshots and Hypercharger.I plan on doing an Andrews cam over the winter,I had 2 responses up in softail land and they said the ev 27, has anyone ever put in an ev3 or ev46 ? Is there a big difference? I would love to get that cool cam idle, but i want good driveability and reliability any suggestions fellas? all input is greatly apprecciated.
Not an Andrews cam, but I would also look at the (smallest) Jims bolt in Evo cam, I installed one in a friend's 99 Night Train, and it ran really well. Tons of torque and pulled hard to redline. The bike had a Thunderheader and Mikuni on it, too. I run a EV-51 in my FXD, it screams on the top end, but was a little soft down low with stock compression. With 10.5:1, it flat rips from idle to limiter. I have also heard great things about the Woods cam.
Do you ride two up alot? If so you can't go wrong with the EV27. However your softail is a light bike, so I would imagine the EV46 would be a good choice also.
I'm very happy with my EV27 installed on my 93 FLHS. It was a 'night and day' difference from the stock cam.
Do not forget to replace the INA bearing with a Torrington!!!
You need to evaluate what rpm you do most of your riding in. If you pick a cam that the power band starts a couple of hundred rpm below your cruising speed I think you will be happy. The big numbers up top are fun but riding a bike that is soggy where you normally ride is not alot of fun. The bigger cams need compression and head work to really shine.

I run an EV3.
It comes on a bit later, let's say under 3000, and pulls very hard all the way up to the limiter.
It's my understanding that the 3 cam was specifically designed for lighter bikes.... Mine is about 570-580 lbs.
It made a huge difference. Then again, I've done a bit more than the cam.
I'm pleased with it's performance.
The Screamin Eagle Heads will accept up to a .620 lift cam? without any modification...thinking of something different myself....
(I've seen anywhere from .520, .575, and .620 lift...anyone know which is correct?)

Reason: Just another thought...

Yeah i have some paperwork on the Andrews cams and the ev3 comes on from 2600 to 6500 rpm and it is for lighter bikes, the guy from Andrews also recomended that i use that cam.
When a lifter left me and killed the cam, I pulled out an EV-3 and replaced it with a 27. The only real difference I noticed was a little broader torque band in the mid-range (where 99.9% of my riding is). The 3 may have pulled a little harder at the top, but the 27 pulls hard all the way. I think the techs at Andrews tell you what they think you want to hear to make the sale. The 46 appeared too peaky for my style, so it was never on my short list.
Motorcycles are like cars, you can have a mean sound, but unless all the combination isn't there, it won't have enough power to get out of it's own way.
My bike has a EV27 cam, stock punched-out pipes with a K&N filter. I'm making just a hair under 86 ft. pounds of torque! I am exceptionally happy with the way it runs-smooth torque band, runs like a swiss watch!
I have heard good things about the woods cam and certainly wouldn't rule it out. It was a tough decision, but when I put in a fresh cam last winter I went with the tried and true EV27. It's been around FOREVER and is a reliable, bolt in cam. I'm glad I went with the 27! I have no long term experience with the woods so I can't really comment on its reliability or even its power. Hope this helps!
