Anybody ever stick an 07-08 front header pipe on a pre-95 dual cross-over exhaust system? I want to use an o2 sensor on my '88 FLHTP and don't want to weld in a bung. Thanks.
I am using an O2 sensor and air-fuel ratio gauge on our 1990 FLHTCU. I purchased a set of stock '08 takeoffs touring headers from a fellow on these forums and use '06 CVO mufflers with 1.75 Full Sac baffles. I replaced the complete header system, did not try to match the newer front pipe to the older rear "H" pipe.
The only problem I ran into was the bracket for the left - rear pipe, I had to drill a different mounting hole and cut a little off the stock bracket. I originally only drilled a new mounting hole but the new style rear pipe seems to be a little lower (maybe 1/2" closer to the transmission) and was more difficult to fit in, removing a little from the old bracket made it easier to install.
I am not sure but somewhere around 1998 they switched to a different type clamp set up for the rear pipe, perhaps a mounting bracket from that year will work fit correctly, I did not want to wait to buy a bracket from a '98 and afterwards decided it was not worth the trouble changing. The bracket for the rear exhaust pipe on the 2008 was offset where it mounts to the transmission, the older type were flat. It is not a very difficult job making it all fit, but it is not an exact replacement - well maybe it would be if you bought the bracket and post to hold the rear pipe from the '98. Sorry I don't have any part numbers or pictures, but if you can look at a newer bike you will see the different type clamp setup to secure the rear pipe at the transmission.
Thanks Joe. I don't want to ditch my old SuperTrapp slipons just yet, they sound too good and match my setup nicely. I can get a used 07 front header cheap off of fleabay, but I just need to know if it connects to the H pipe the same way. Looking at the pic it looks like it does.
That being said, I have been looking at a set of Hooker Tuned Flow slipons. Anybody ever tried them? How do they sound? Can they really be tuned similar to the SuperTrapps? Thanks.
