My engine light comes on and off while riding. Has done it for a long time. Bike runs fine. Put over 6,000 miles on it this summer.
It doesn't seem to follow a pattern. Sometimes it's on alot. Sometimes it's mostly off. Never comes on under hard acceleration. Just under normal driving and cruising speeds.
Any way for me to diagnose the problem?
Is there a way for me to get diagnostic codes w/o taking to a shop?
1995 Ultra EFI
You probably have a trouble code logged into ECM memory. If your 95 is the same as my 98, just turn your ignition on for 3 seconds then off for 3 seconds, then back on for 3 seconds and off for 3 seconds and then finally just leave it on. The engine check light will rapidly flash soon after and then slowly start flashing any codes stored.
Its primitive, but you interpret number sequences from the (slower) number of flashes that occurs in similar on/off time sequence, any noticeably longer pause means that another sequence may follow. When you observe the rapid flash event again, that means the first code is complete, the next slower sequence of flashes will either be a new code or the same code just read.
Number sequences are no more than two digit responses, example:
1 to 9 flash sequence is code 1 to 9
1 flash, pause, followed by a sequence of multiple flashes is read as code 11 thru 19
Code 16 is a common fault; it means either a low or high battery condition was logged.
If you come up with some other code, I can look it up in my manual and let you know what it means
