Recently fitted an Evo style 110" engine (Sputhe) with a bottom breather, it's done about 50 miles and whilst out for a run I noticed smoke coming up from the front of the bike. Stopped and noticed oil pouring from air filter cover (S & S) which was going onto pipes and oil pump (S&S). It's coming from bottom breather pipe. Anybody any ideas why it's doing this ? Running fully synthetic so not cheap. Not showing any oil pressure on the guage but oil light goes 'out' .............. worried no oil to top end.
Cold dry day here and after filling up with petrol it all seemed to be going sooo well ...................... why does it ALWAYS happen that way ?
Andy,
Jeez!! top or bottom breather heads along with the bottom breather Sputhe cases??? I thought when we talked before this was an S&S engine. Is the internal breather timed properly, is the correct oil pump and oil pump gaskets installed?? More info please.

No breathers on the RMD heads (fitted with Sputhe covers), breather valve is timed OK oil pump was rebuilt using new gaskets. Engine was COMPLETELY rebuilt after shearing a pinion shaft, balanced and crank rebuilt. Was running OK, it's already done 250 miles inc' warm-ups with an oil change at every step ............. gutted ! After being recovered and brought home now looking for ideas of things to check tomorrow or the end of the week.
Good to 'hear' from you !
If I'd had post 1992 crankcases I would have worked my original Evo motor ........ might have to get an Ultima 113" ?
Is it circulating oil?? I take it you ran the breather hose into the air cleaner?? Is the oil tank overfilled? Try taking a little oil out to ensure that the level isn't over the vent in the tank. Hope this helps.
Andy,
Check out what John and Rufus have suggested, we'll somehow between us get this figured out. How's the weather been in Scotland? I'm still waiting to catch up with you on that pint, two, three or more!!
