I have aquired a EV-13 Cam and been doing some research and everybody on here says nothing about the ev-13 all discussion covers mostly the
ev-27. This cam is advertised for heavy baggers which I have, My question is will this cam be a good choice or waste of time. I'm not looking for big power just a nice and smooth motor with a little more torque. My setup right now is 94 EGC with SE air, HSR42, tru duals with rush 1 3/4 baffle slipons and SE Ign Module. Any advise appretiated.
Ive never used one, but with the shorter duration, that cam should be a fresh breath of air for that 80 incher with stock compression. I believe the reason most people use the 27, is because they are a little more versatile, can be used in a stock motor or with upgraded pistons. I say since you already own that cam, throw it in and see how you like it.
I ran the EV23 in my Ultra which is similiar to the EV13 in that it is for heavier bikes and milder than the EV27. It was a good cam, much better than stock, but after a year or two I tried the EV27 and by the seat of the pants the bike pulled much harder. One reason I went with the 27 is that my engine seems have slightly higher compression than most, the pistons are stock and the heads have not been shaved that I can tell, but it did ping a bit with the 23. The cold cranking compression was 185 psi. I put the 27 in to lower the CCP and it did lower it to 165 psi, and all the pinging went away and as I said the performance is higher.
When I was researching cams for my bike I considered the 13. It sounds like the cam your looking for.
From what I understand, that cam will actually make your bike run COOLER, slightly more power, and run better! Its not as aggresive as the EV27 (Thats my cam) but your gas mileage should be GREAT in comparison!
Ok installed the 13 and I think I like it, Just able to go for short ride but do notice it pulls better. I do notice I have more lifter noise and thought maybe mis adjusted so went back through and readjusted all the pushrods and still same noise. I thought this was supposed to be a quiet cam or am I wrong, I put about 15 miles on it to make sure lifters had a good pumpup on them. It's not bad but had none before.
