Speaking of something different... tonight I noticed that my front cylinder base casket is bubbling a bit on the right front corner. Is that where one of the oil passages is? Looks like I will be taking the top end apart before too long. I'll put a Hayden Oil Fix in there, but...
Since I'll be taking the heads and jugs off to replace the base gaskets anyway - that opens up a whole new world of possibilities as to fun things I can do with the heads, springs, valves, jugs, pistons, etc...
Let the recommendations and opinions begin! sort of...
Thread stealer...JK...The oil return holes are on the front left corner on the front cylinder,And on the left rear corner on the rear cylinder.

Then my symptom seems rather odd, Leg... those positions look fine on both cylinders - it's the right front corner of the front cylinder that's bubbling... ever see a base leak just there, and not where the oil returns are?

I wouldnt let the location bother me so much as ,There prone to leak anywhere around the base.Id just take some degreaser and clean it up good, then ride it and keep an eye on it.If it returns from the base, then just replace the gaskets.Ive actullay quit using gaskets on mine and went to using silicone, for a couple of differnt reasons. But there are some risk involved in doing this if youre not carefull. Also look into using cometic gaskets when you go back, theyve got the best gaskets around now in my opionion.

Thanks, Leg. I would like to learn more about using silicone in lieu of gaskets.
I will definitely put Cometics in there, bottom and top, when I have to change them out if I don't use silicone - after I hopefully hear back from you what the pros and cons are. I just don't want have to be concerned about it leaking anymore for a long time after I go to the trouble of doing this involved job.
It is bubbling noticeably when running at normal RPM - not gushing or anything - but the front of the engine is all greasy from it. I'll have to fix that before too long... I really HATE oil leaks!
I feel ya on the oil leak leak thing...As far as silicone goes, you just gotta be carefull not to use to much. You dont want it getting into the oil passages.Next when using it on base gaskets which is really the only place i use it,Youll need to make sure the oil drain holes dont get plugged up with.I use a peice of lashing wire to run in the hole several times to make sure its all clear.Still a good idea to use the oil fix kit,or like my instructer told us a small chevy dipstick tube, then it cant get in the passage way.Third, not using a base gasket changes tolerences,ie squish band,pist/valve clearnce,etc..A good place to get all this explained is www.nrhsperformance.com,He's allready taken the time to explain all of it.But using silicone dosent gaurantee that it will never leak agin, but allmost 20k in 2 yrs of hard riding mine is still leak free, till the next time i ride it,now ive said something..
My 1990 developed cylinder base leaks, it came with the early Evos, like shovels always leave their mark when they stop! Changed for later gaskets and no problems since. Of course, riding on the rev limiter all the time can have something to do with it....

There is an oil journal on the right front, but it's closer to the right rear cylinder stud of the front jug. It's just the drilling for the tappet guide supply journal. There is supposed to be a tiny freeze plug in that hole and I've only heard (didn't see it) of one leaking there, but the guy later discovered it was a cracked case. 91 engine, I think it was. Here's a pic of the hole...
PS ... sorry for adding to the hijack - I'm bored - nothing on TV, fresh 12-pack in the cooler so ... what can I say? "guilty as charged"
