I've been running the D402 Police tire on my Electra Glides.....have gotten 12,000 miles on the rear, the front usually dies of dry rot. I like the fact, that if I get a flat....the bike is still rideable (Slowly though). After the Dunlop gets some wear on them, the bike gets squirrely.

But for tires that feel the best on the road, I would pick Metzler. Good tire, but I never get good mileage on these for some reason.

I've yet to have the perfect tire......

HD dunlop,mu85. (402's) i think. But this is the only tire that ive seen that will get any mileage at all.On an avearge the rear will get about 7-8k,but have seen them do allmost 16k,but he rides long trips allmost all interstate,so that is the exception not the rule. The last tire on mine i got 8k n some change. As far as avon and metzler, there great tires, but there pricey and dont last.I run avon's on choppers, bar hoppers etc..and like em alot, handle great and they look good. But i routinley drag my floorboards riding 2 up on my dresser with the mu dunlop,so how much more sticky do they need to be?

Nothing but Dunlops since I started riding in 1971, never had a problem (other than flats).

I just stick with Dunlop anymore. The other brands brag about handling, ride and etc but I never noticed any real difference. The Dunlops seem to get a tad squirley in road cracks when worn, but the others wear out faster so you have to deal with them more often.

Can anyone who lost/dumped a bike on the street say it happened because of the brand of tires they were using? I think it could be said because of the ammount of wear on a particular tire but I can't see the brand saving anyone. Just wondering..

Id have to agree,Other hitting some raod debris, rock, sand, etc.I dont think its a big deal.It not were riding sport bikes and dragging knees on EG's.I know ive been some pretty bad storms, and the dunlops never let me down.

Yea. I've always run Dunlop's too.. When these threads come about, I wonder what I may be missing with the Metz and Avon tires.. But, I truely have never noticed a problem with the Dunlops.. The ride is good and they never falter.. Others look better, but I'm not sure the extra money for a softer tire is worth the look factor, to me..

Reason im asking, is I used a set of shinko tires (which in the sport bike world is one of the best tires manufactured) and they were awesome for about 4500 miles, and once they were about half worn, they walked all over the place, i went to a dunlop elite 3, and loved them, only put about 15 miles on them and my father promptly totaled my glide....so, needless to say, didnt get to ride them in the rain or see what kinda mileage theyd bring, thanks for all the insight, i really like the metzler 880s too.

Been running D402 for 110K on this 87 Dresser. I get 13 - 15k rear, 32K+ front and never balanced a single one and only had 1 that was a little bumpy.

There was someone on here a good while back bragging about some kinda tire (popular brand but I can't remember) and how good they stuck in the rain etc. and went on the say he could get about 4K on a rear.. now I would hate to think, with new rubber on my bike, I couldn't ride any further than Phoenix without having to change tires before I could get back - how dumb is that?

Hey Chad,

Most all of my buddies who ride bigger bikes have one thing in common....they almost all run the Metezlers.
There is a difference, though....
They bitch about the Brazilian made tires, and rave about the German ones....

The thing I hear the most about all the Dunlops is the rubber compound is very hard, giving you great mileage and durability, but you sacrifice grip....not sure about the E3's...could be a different story.

Personally, I'll sacrifice mileage for the best grip, wet or dry, that I can get......you only have 2 tires and about 26" between your a$$ and the pavement....and the tires better be the best you can get.......JMHO
Avon Venom's for me....but my bike is much lighter than yours.
