I would like help with this question that I have'nt received any replies on in the Engine/Exhaust catagory.... I might be breaking protocol/rules but money is everything to my wife... Please help if you can and thank you.
BIG GROWL EXHAUSTS FOR SOFTAIL???? Can anyone tell me if they have had problems with these... Harmonic problems, mounting problems, they rattle... Something... Has anybody heard of these pipes?
I'm thinking of putting these on a 1988 FLSTC. I have front and rear floor boards. Will the floor boards get in the way of mounting?
Desperate for help... The "Boss" wants me to save as much as possible. Which means the cheeper the better for her, ha ha...
A friend I ride with has their pipes and loves them. they come without baffles so they are LOUD. I would suggest putting some BCC baffles in them or making some lollipops since money is everything to your wife. They are made in Mexico if that matters to you.
Heres what I did. I, like you, have a wife who is not very interested in me spending any more money on my motorcycles. So I figured modifying my existing mufflers for free was far better than buying new ones. Heres the thread I started about the same thing. It really turned out well after all and didn't cost a thing. Bike sounds great, its loud but not drag pipe loud and I'm pretty happy. Just wanted to throw it out there for you. Good pictures if I do say so myself.
I have a set in my shop that came off my '87 Sloptail. They're OK, but if you spend time riding and not so much polishing the chrome isn't the best. I put lollipops in 'em to regain a bit of the straight pipe caused torque loss.
Thank you all... Good advice, I'll pass it to the "Boss" and wait two wks for her reply... lol Just kiding guys she' the best and not as "Bossy" I may have lead you to believe. She loves me... thats gotta mean something, she just wants me to explore all options.
Thanks again for your help.
My first chioce was V&H Short shots... Not sure if I'll have mounting problems with the rear floor board. I've asked local shops but they all give me the same answer... With the year of your Harley we can't assure that the fitment will be proper without some modification maybe, and you will lose the nastalgic look of your Harley by switching pipes.
A buddy of mine has a set of Big Growl Straight Shooters on his Softail.
He has had no problems with them, and he said they bolted right up.
As mentioned before, they are un-baffled....loud...but look pretty good.
Not sure if the floorboards effect mounting...he does not have floorboards.
He bought them thru Jireh Cycles, which I have found to be one of the cheapest places around for aftermarket parts...
Call them and ask about mounting and fitment issues. They should be able to point you in the right direction,
I drilled mine out too! used a 1 inch hole saw & they soung great. Not strait pipes but not quiet. They bark like an eguana when ya twist the go fast thing!
