OK, they don't have a smiley face for an embarrased grin or I'd use it here...
Really clacky noise on the left but sounds a little high, very throttle sensitive and only when in a pull, mild or wild. Comes in about 2300 and goes away about 3600 on a hard acceleration and cruising around 2600-3600 can make it come and go easily with the slightest throttle increase/decrease.
New compensator, M-6 set at 9/16" with only one thick shim. 65,000 on the chain and when I went to pull the stator a month ago, I could slide the front sprocket and shaft extension off the shaft without pulling the clutch hub... oh, and it's the short primary - 72link chain. The clutch hub isnot cracked.
I'm out of duck tape but I bet some Tech at Jireh would sell me a master link
Naw, that's the weird thing, it's not stretched much at all, really there's lots of adjustment left. It doesn't give any typical signs of a bad one and won't do it at all unless it's rolling. I'm hoping it's just a nasty tight spot making the M6 jump and chatter. Just never saw one that would let you cheat your way into the stator.
Yeah thats kinda weird. Most of the time if they let you cheat, its because there streched/wore out.But the adjustment would be a sure sign.Im not sure if the m6 would have anything to do with it either.Ive allways used and recommend the factory setup, after seeing one of the "self adjustment" types come apart,I dont think it was an m6 though.Have you checked sprocket shaft runout by chance?..If its out bad though it will show up as a tight spot in the chain.
I keep going back to youre first post.
At first i thought you were just kidding around, hence my duct tape reply.
What bike are dealing with, and was the noise there before the stator job or after?
If the chain doesn't do it, I'll ride it somewhere when the weather breaks and see if they'll tie it on a dyno and load it so I can use a stethoscope without without worrying about getting run over by a mini-van...
