lifter rebuild
any of you guys ever just replace the roller and pin in the lifters other then buying new,we rebuild auto lifters all the time just wondering if anyone does their bike lifters

Apparently not... The rebuild kits are about 60.00 and lifters can be bought for 45 each or less. It's become a throw away world it seems. But I would agree that as a rule, they last forever on the hydraulic side and roller/bearing wear is the dangerous part of having one fail.

That would be the logical way to go on a solid, for sure. Tell me Doc, did you have or make a jig or holder for the tappet, use a press or punch?

I also used to replace the lifter wheels all the time, and especially on shovels and pans, but also on early evo
however...... I would not do that now, as the pricing structure has changed
now that labour is so exy, and parts relatively cheaper, nad especially that.........
GENUINE HARLEY LIFTERS AND BLOCKS ARE SO CHEAP....
I replace it all now, blocks and lifters
If you do replace just the rollers, the key to long term success is to centre punch the axle, causing it to expand against the inside of the inner roller race, thereby ensuring no movement, and obviating the risk of failure
only then do you use the correct tool to spread the ends
however...... I would not do that now, as the pricing structure has changed
now that labour is so exy, and parts relatively cheaper, nad especially that.........

I have to agree that it is easier to just by new ones these days. Probably cheaper too once you consider your time replacing the rollers. We used to rebuild starters and generators and alot of the other sub-assemblies on the bikes that we just replace today. Yes throw away world would describe it quite well
