I've enjoyed every bike I've owned, but I've gotten into the expensive habit of trading every season. I know that if I see a shovel head for the right price I'm going to get one of those next. I admit it's an adiction, but how can you not want to ride 'em all?

My scoot started life as a police bike on Oahu. Couldn't tell by looking at it now.

And mine since 1990! Just added a little more tinsel to it over the weekend. Taking it from the UK to Poland in a few week's time. Still life in the old girl!

I love you bike every time I see it in a post. The paint colors you picked really are awesome. How many miles do you have on that thing now?

I bought my 99 EVO Softail Custom a year ago with 17,000 miles on it. I now have 23,000 on it, and I love it. It runs great, handles great, and it is fairly easy to work on. I got mine off of ebay for $7,100, and it looks like new. The only other new bike I like is the cross-bones, but they don't have carbed EVO's in them. LOL I plan on riding this baby till I quit riding.

Not sure where you ride but I see lots of EVOs on the road. Probably more than Twinkies. I know I see one every time I ride too. Wouldn't ride anything else.

Adam,

The blue is the original 1990 'Bright Candy Hi Fi Blue Metallic', although I had the headlight nacelle and fork shrouds painted the same colour, and the glass-fibre parts are 'birch white' (I repainted the original saddlebag). I was once told the colour was a Duo Glide colour and when I came to fit a batwing and tourpak, which came off two different bikes, it was easier to paint them plus the saddlebags at the same time, rather than try to match the original blue. I later learned that the blue is not a Duo Glide colour, but what the heck!

Although I have owned it from new I have only done 50k miles on it. For several years it was unrideable, having collected a number of failed parts, but we restored it in time to ship it back home for the 2003 Centenary celebrations and the rest is history!

It is a living breathing project, in perpetual development! When I refit the batwing and tourpak in a few days time I'll take another photo, to show off her fog lights. I doubt if the new wide rear tyre will be obvious.

Yeah, just the engine, tranny and frame have changed, and the electronics and the wheels and the fairings.. and just a few other things, but other than that, the new bikes are exactly the same as the old ones...

I know what you are saying, but I was talking about changes more from a looks standpoint. I realize that things will change over a period of time. Some things will be for the better and some maybe not so much. They new bikes really are awesome, but to me there is just too much technology in them. I would love to be able to go out and buy a new Ultra, but on my government salary I do not see that happening and time in the near future. I also find quite a bit more please in wrenching on something that is older. I do know what you are saying though.

Graham,

That really is a beautiful bike, and I appreciate that information you provided. I hope that you enjoy many, many more miles from it.

I ride around in North and West GA the most, but I live outside metro Atlanta and there is a lot of money. I do see some Evos, but for the most part, everyone is on something newer it seems. Most of the guys I meet or ride with make me feel like my 05 is old, lol. Either way, I am just happy to share the road with other bikers.
