1998 Evo question
[quote=MarkRaz;6668424]I've got almost 60K on my RG. Just now I've started having back-firing issues.quote]
I just rolled 62k on mine and it has begun to occasionally backfire during start-up. Changed the plugs and it's still doing it. Sure scares the sh*t outta the dog when it happens! I'm also starting to get some more noticeable noise coming from the engine as well. Can't pinpoint it yet but it worries me. Still has 125 psi though.
I'm thinking if it makes it through the season I'm going to send it in to the Factory for the rebuild program next winter.

Sold mine last Monday, didn't think with my new business that I would make it through the summer, hadn't had a paycheck in a month and house payments were starting to worry me. So I sold it, 49,000 on the clock, and I got $9000 for her. That amount will get me through the summer and then some.
Mis my ride to work, my mechanic and I sure had her running good. Looking forward to riding again. God a need a violin with this post.
Shu you wont be disappointed in an Evo.

BUMMER, but you did good on price, when you get back on your feet you can pick up a garage queen for the same money. Let me know if you need help looking, always got an eye on the used market.
Good luck, hope you find work soon.

Bought my wife a new evo Dyna in '98. Both wife and Dyna are keepers. Mikuni carb, lowered, etc. etc. Great bike.
Two small issues:
Two small issues:
1. the absence of a 6th gear while riding on the Interstate is felt
2. one time head gasket failure on the front cylinder. Fixed, and no subsequent issue.
Parts readily available. Lots of aftermarket parts. Independent mechanics know how to work on the evo, but not the twin cam.

I feel for ya bud, weren't happy with what you had, and now maybe buyers remorse. Been following your posts here and elsewhere, face it, once a harley rider, always a harley rider, build the darn thing to suit your needs. That Victory won't be worth didly in a couple of years! But, then I'm preaching to the choir.btw, love the living crap outta my 90 fxrs-sp.!!! Super reliable and sounds great.

Nah. No violin needed. I feel your pain. This will pass, take care of family, house first. This was the right decision. Best wishes for you business!

Went on the flood run a few weeks back, my bud had a twinkie, always complained about power. Stopped at the S&S tent, had mock-up cam boxs of cam chain vs. gear drive, WHAT A major difference. Seems like so much more to go wrong with the twin cam, set aside the reduction in hp. Like the old adage, keep it simple, stupid!! If it sounds like I like evo's, you're right!!
