Our Sportster was doing that. It would pop out the head gasket when cold. I had replaced the base gaskets and used an aftermarket head gasket. It came with specific directions for a regular torque setting, not the so far plus 90 degrees. I followed the directions (doooh). I thought it was the carb also at first, also an S&S at the time, and finally figured it was the head gasket. I went to the pawn shop and bought all the junk 1/2" combination wrenches they had. Some I cut down, some I bent into a pretzel. I then could get into the 2 inside ones without pulling the rocker boxes off and I tightened them up "by feel" in the right sequence until they "felt right." It's been fine since.

Thanks guys, My indy is gonna stop by Sunday Morning and take a look/listen. I rode the xlh883 up and down the street (no plates) man I can whip a u turn easier on my 800lb flhtc than on that little thing, it just feels wobbly and not as sure footed. I'm sure I could get used to it. Who cares if I look like an ant carrying a walnut going down the ride. I'd rather ride that than nothing at all!

Yep, you were correct, head gasket. Bummer my indy is tied up for at least a week on another scoot, then depending on what needs to be/opts to be done, prolly another month. Just activated the insurance on the sporty. Need to get used to that thing, easier to whip a u-turn on my 800 lb flh than on that 500 lb bike. But I'm sure I'll get used to it. Be harder on my ***, but I'll appreciate the flh when I get it back. Hoping to do some headwork, and hoping I can save the jugs/pistons and just get new rings and hone the jugs true and flat.
