Just buy a new ignition, $40-50 after market.

The switches for the early and mid years Evo Touring models (handlebar mounted, 84-92) are no longer avaliable thru HD, there are NO aftermarket replacements and used ones/NOS switches and ***** are extremely scarce.

I won't bother with the part numbers, but when they were avaliable thru HD, the switch was approx. $225 and the **** was approx. $225 purchased separately. But the assembly purchased as a kit was about $125. (go figure) Ocassionally you'll see a used or NOS **** or switch (almost never as a unit) for about $100 on ebay, most times the **** is with no key and I assume the keys can still be had thru HD but not sure about that. Really, I have an '87 and keep an eye out for them and it really is seldom one is even offered for sale. That's how I knew all that
Of course the tank mounted switches like Softtails and RoadKings, or the '93 up switches are readily avaliable.
Pretty knowledgable guy too. If it's not listed on the web site, send him a note. It might take a couple of days for a reply, but he does reply. I bought a stock carb motor harness and misc. mounts from him (collecting parts for the efi to carb conversion).
Thankyou all for the replys. Have to push down. Works fine like it should on an 18000 mile bike. I will have pics of it tomorrow before I go for my ride with my friends. Or if it rains, will be working on little things on the scooters. take care and ride safe! Gary
