Default Still clicking

SO last fall I got a click. I cleaned the connections I could get to and it went away, for awhile. So I get a few clicks this year. I do the Dr Hess dual relay set up. Checked the wiring ,tested everythings working fine. Tonight I stop at a store for minute , come out and CLICK! Two tries, first click then it cranked slow and then fired up. When I load test my battery it stays in the 11 volt range with a load on it. I have tested at the battery while trying to start it. The battery is a sealed Interstate that is 2 years old. I keep it on a Battery tender. It didn't blow the fuse in line. Any suggestions? Thanks
ETA. I didnot put the Battery tender on last night. When I went out today around 12 hours the battery was at 12.8 volts. It went 11.3 with the starter engaged.

I had the dreaded click on my '96 Electra Glide a few times each year till I finally installed a rebuild kit for the solenoid. A few years back I added a cap with a pushbutton on the solenoid, it came in handy a couple times before I did the rebuild. It is still on there just in case. After the rebuild about 10000 mile ago, I've not had any problems and I'm at 130000 miles.

Have you checked your charging system? I've even installed a thicker 50 wire to the starter from the relay You may also have a loss in voltage from the H-bar switch. Also Interstate batteries are not like Deka batteries(Harley brand)and can lose load after one year as they are one year warr. batteries.

For what it's worth:

Last year I mined the site here afor the click fixes and did most of what I ran into. Did that over the course of a few weeks so I have no idea what cleared it up.

But I always had the impression it was cleaning off the grounds for the regulator. On mine the regulator has a bracket. I scraped the paint so there was a good connection but also pulled the bracket and did the same thing where it attached to the frame. Covered everything with dielectric grease. The actual suggestion ... I think ... was to run a ground to the engine but I did this first and the click was gone so I left it alone

I just replaced the Stator and reg. But I had the click before. I ran a #10 gauge for the feed to and from the relay. Im thinking a new solinoid. I have cleaned and put dielectric grease on all the grounds and connections. It seems like it only does it when its hot. I can't get a push button cover for mine because its an 87. The battery seems to take aload. it starts right up unless I get the click. When I described the slow crank in the OP it cranked on the next try and started right up.

Put your volt meter on the pull in connection for the solenoid. The one that should now come from both your new relay and the original relay. The black lead of the volt meter should be on the battery negative. Push the start button and see what voltage you have at the solenoid pull in. Check the voltage at the big wire from the battery when you push the button. Check the voltage on the big wire going from the solenoid to the starter when you push the button. Tell us all these voltages.

Oh, and 2 years on a battery, that's about all you get. Especially an interstate, which I always found to be crap.

I know Inerstates are crap ,but my old battery took a dump and that was the closest one. I willnot buy another. I will check those voltage. Thanks for the help.

Had the same issue with the 96 I just got. Took starter out and found corrosion on the j shaft Cleaned Polished it and put a button on it for just in case. Check your voltage running and see if it rises with the rpm's to some where near 12.8-13v You know if your regulator is good if it does.Check all your grounds to the frame. I've learned the hard way to grind a little of the powder coating away to get good contact.Cleaning the the plug at the regulator as stated above is also cheap insurance.Get some die-electric grease on there also.I've had no problems since doing the above work.

If you haven't yet rebuilt your starter solenoid, it may be time to from what you have already tried. The pic below illustrates what a trashed solenoid and contacts look like right about the time it starts to "click"...

Sorry I have not repleyed. A former employer's wife passed away. We were good friends and they treated me very good. I had to go see the family. The funeral is Thrusday. I will get those readings that Dr Hess suggested. I thank everyone for their help.
