I live in the UK and our new Harleys had to meet different noise regulations to the US, so we got the 'International' spec. They came with an ignition 'curve' that held full retard part way through the rev range, to keep engine noise down. Changing the ignition module for one that gives a proper advance curve gave us worthwhile benefits. I don't know if US models had a similar setup, but it is worth checking. Certainly fitting a programmable ignition should improve the way your bike runs, especially after a cam change.
