Default tach problem

I have a 89 flhs that recently had a electrical meltdown. after replacing the battery, crank sensor, regulator, and ignition module I got it going again. the only lingering problem is the tach reading about 800 rpm's low. i'm thinking when everything else let go, something in the tach did to. any body have any ideas? Thanks

What is the voltage at the battery and, say, at the coil positive and maybe another spot or two where switched +12v exists when the bike is running? Low system voltage will show as low RPM on the tach.

I was riding when the engine started breaking up under throttle and shut off. after that no spark. Along with the above mentioned parts, I had to replace 4 dahs bulbs, brake bulb and 1 rear turn signal bulb. The shop that got it going said charging system was working fine. My thought is along with everything else, something fried in the tach.( diode, capasistor?) Thanks

Default Voltage

I would think a spike in voltage took out the bulbs. Even if you smashed a wire an it went to ground it would just blow a fuse and not take out the bulbs. My guess is your voltage regulator being bad let the alternator (stator) which puts out 32 Volt AC and is converted to DC at 12.6-15 volt depending what the battery needs fried the tack also. Have you checked for AC coming to the battery? If it was 32 volt AC, it would have wiped the tack out. Its a lot more fragile then a bulb. The battery probably shorted bad taking out regulator. Then the alternator toasted the rest.
