Default Finding neutral

Anyone ever have a problem getting their bike into neutral? I have a hell of a time getting my '85 FXRP back into neutral after putting it in 1st and not moving. When I shut it off, it goes right into neutral. As soon as I start it up and put it in 1st, I have to shut it off again to get it back into neutral. The guy who owned the bike before me had a new tranny put in. He upgraded it from the original 4 speed to a Baker 5 speed.

Is the clutch dragging? What primary fluid are you using? After adjusting the clutch, try some Mobil 1 ATF for the primary. Otherwise, I don't know about the Baker 5 speed, but those two things (clutch adjustment and fluid) will fix or greatly improve most neutral finding issues.

I have to give mine a little blip of the throttle and it pops right in.

I have always, on every bike, blipped the throttle to get into neutral. Some may need it and some may not, but it just seems to help!

I have a stock 5-speed...I also sometimes need to blip the throttle...sometimes pulling the clutch in and rolling the bike backwards a couple inches helps too.

When I've had this problem it's been because the clutch is dragging. Try adjusting the clutch just a little bit.

My softail has always been a little touchy about getting neutral when the engine is running, sometimes I'll bump it into neutral when I'm still rolling just a bit, other times I don't bother with it and turn it off before putting it in neutral.

My 1995 fatty doesn't like going into neutral, always wants to stay in gear ready to get going again lol
I have to blimp the throttle sometimes, and sometimes not... it's quite normal on Harleys to have a hard time finding neutral...
Best fix... never stop, that way u don't have the need to find it

Ok, I'm glad to know thats its not an issue with just my bike. I'll try adjusting the clutch and bumping the throttle.

Oil that is too heavy or over full in the primary will cause that trouble, if you are going in to adjust the clutch then you might want to check it and/or change it.

I pop it into neutral just befor the bike stops, smooth as silk and no holding the clutch at lights..
