Default info on evo

Hey guys I'm new here and am going to be building a custom sporstser. My dad gave me this engine and has no idea what it is. I know its an Evo but I need the year, size, model. . . so I can start working on it. Can somebody identify this stuff for me? I can take more pics if needed. Thanks!

Look on the cases, down at the bottom part. I _think_ it's on the left side on that one, just below the cylinders. Probably has a star, then 1HD and the rest.

like he said, look for it on the engine.. can't see it from thepictures though, but it should be there somehwere, harley has been stamping the vin on the engine since 1970
but this might help.. read the RED letters before the 1981...
VIN on the engine doesn't matter

Normally on the primary side, just below the front cylinder, possibly on the right. Should be pretty obvious, its 13 characters long! The full VIN of 17 characters was on the frame.

Looks not to be stock cylinders and heads.I don't know what cylinders the are but they are not a fins removed stocker.Could be a stroker motor looking at the height of it.Push rod tubes look to be the long Billet boys.Looks like your dad has been nice to you.

Looking around at Sportster pics, it looks like a late 80s 90-ish engine, but has been polished, removing the shallow fins on the crankcase below the barrels. That being so, the VIN should be on the right side of the engine, unless that side has also been dressed off and polished!
