I bought a 96 Road King this spring with 5900 moles, now a wee bit over 10,000. Put a cam, Big Sucker, B&E Superflow mufflers, a RevTech DFO (EFI model), amplified speakers, an air horn and some extra rear lighting. Enjoying the EVO life, you will too!
Well, here it is! I got it this morning, and rode 150 miles or so. I like it! NOW it does have 5K on it. It's mechanically stock, and has V&H mufflers. So the only non-stock items are bolt-on.
I had a 97 WG that I sold last year, and I've been missing it ever since. 50K. I just love the feel and sound of an Evo (not that I've owned any other HD), so I decided NOT to get a Twinkie, although deals are a plenty if you look. I also wanted a carb model, which is all you get on a WG Evo. Since I'm tall, it all works out well for me.
I love my (new to me) EVO!

glad you are liking it!
Funny, just yesterday met the guy who lives a block away from my place who has the same bike, blue 98.
I have heard him in the past couple months but never saw the bike. Another happy Evo WG owner.
Congrats on the new bike. I got a 99 Softail Custom a year ago with 17,000 on it, and have put 8,000 on it since then. No leaks, and runs great. Only things I have done were to change the fluids, replace tires, repack wheel brgs., and replace the regulator. I am planning to replace the INA cam brg. with a torrington this winter. The original owner put about 4,000 miles on it in 4 years, and the owner I got it from put about 1,500 a year on it. It had been serviced regularly, and well taken care of. To me, a carbed EVO is about as good as it gets.
with 5 k you are most likely riding on the original tires....that would concern me..
overall a good deal tho...and specially a carb'd evo..
+1, I'd think seriously about replacing those. When I bought my low mileage EVO, I got it from a dealer who had changed out the tires, tank and the bags. Those tires, if they are original, have sat an awfully long time, maybe dry rotted.
Congrats Texasridr ya did good and welcome. I can relate, I picked up a basically stock '98 softail custom in June with 4160 on the clock, as clean as a brand new bike. Life is good, isn't it?
I remember looking at my brother in the mid-90's and telling him that I liked the fact the yuppies were buying up all the Harleys. We both had a laugh and talked about how sooner or later the price would drop! Then we could buy up thier garage ornaments for pennies on the dollar with hardly any miles!! Took a little longer than I expected, but hey-the time has finally come!!!
