What problems can arise with a bike that sits too long, other than tires rotting and a battery going bad? What are some obvious indications of neglect? Oh, and what's a good price on a stock bike that's been kept in a clean garage. I'm thinking 7500 would be a great price, and 8500 the max.
Can't help on price, but treat it to a major service with all new service fluids and parts. Flush the brakes through thoroughly. Brake pads and pistons can stick. If it has been kept dry and inside you may find it doesn't need too much to give you a top bike!
Greetings,
About 6K seems to be the going price for a low milage 95 up EVO WG in Central Texas area.
See a bunch sitting at 7 to 8 K for years and years - and not selling.
There is a beautiful low mile 97 DWG in Lakeway area for 7200.00 that's been on Craigslist off and on for over a year and a half.
Unless all of thos 5k miles were put on in the first few months of it's life and then it's sat around ever since, I wouldn't expect any trouble.
My Ironhead had 11k miles on it when I bought it in 1992. I rode it for 8 years and put on 40k miles with no issues from it being a low mile back. In 2000, I bought a new bike and haven't ridden the Ironhead 2k miles since. It has no issues from being ridden very little in the past decade. I can start it up and ride it anywhere, anytime.
Well.... I've found me a keeper. I only got him down to 8300, but it's worth it I think. Miles is 4900, and it's clean, clean, clean. Only a little sign of age on the forks (downs tubes is it?) and of course the spokes ever so slightly. No rust. No leaks of ANY kind. Starts up perfectly cold or hot engine. No popping from the exhaust on decel. Clean fluids (except I didn't check the brake fluid), new tires, battery, good life remaining on brake pads and both front and rear have good feel. I could just not find anything to nit-pick at all.
It got ridden almost 1,000 miles last year, and had been professionally serviced at the 3K mark. So the history looks really good. I feel good about this one... I'll post pics when the deal is done.
Cool deal and welcome to the Evo Club! My '98 RKC had 3K on it when I bought it two years ago. Aside from rocker box gaskets, no problems in the 12K I've put on it since. Congrats!
