well as usual all you guys are great (I have found that most of my life with most harley riders) I am already in the (evo)frame of mind actually .I believe it will be a great ride.As far as drilling out the breather I meant the backing plate for the air (stealer wants over 100 for the high flow breather kit).Any way I was actually up most of the night on here off and on looking at things I can do .I do have a set of the jackpots and the original pipes off the 08 I am going to try as well as some air filter mods and rejet the carb so I can at least be at stage 1.Thanks again guys for all the support and info.

You can check out ebay for NOS SE stage 1 air cleaners, I have the early EFI so I didn't have much luck, but there were lots available for Carbed models. Price was somewhat lower than new. I ended up with a Ness Big Sucker that I had to modify slighty to fit. If your Mufflers don't work, check out B&E mufflers for touring models. He re cores stock mufflers for sound and performance.

96RK made a good point on breather systems on Ebay, it is flooded with SE's and other manufactures and if you know what your looking for - some steals are possible. Won a nice SE complete system (no cover) for .99 cents and couldn't believe it but the seller went thru with the deal.
Mogood. welcome to our home - it's a good place and I am going to help you with the Evo transformation! you will shortly realize "what is wrong with having the only Evo in the parking lot" keep this phrase in the back of your mind and smile as needed.
Last winter I rebuilt my 89 and last fall gave it a headquarters rumble stick cam and it gave it a real bit of extra pep. This year I had the wife on the back and we were cruising up what we call the mile hill ( real steep and real long) , cruising next to my buddies 05 bagger he was riding solo , he told me ( or admitted ) later on over martinis that his bike had nothing left for keeping up to our waited down EVO, moral of the blurb is never count the EVO short for pulling power.
So why do you guys like the Evo over the 96" Twin cam?
They have their own character. TCs were developed to keep up with the ever stiffer regulations on noise and emissions, which the Evo could no longer meet. But it has affected the way the TCs ride. So an 80" Evo with a few minor mods, as ridemywg has pointed out, can match or better a TC. If you get the chance to ride one (assuming you haven't) give it a go!
The success of the Evo is also what under-pinned the enormous industry out there now producing after-market engines and tuning kits, so Evos also provide an excellent basis for a serious performance machine. At their respective peaks, TCs were made at around seven times as many as Evos, so buy now while stocks last!

I look at it this way. I traded an 06 Honda VTX even for a simi restored 90 Heritage. It had sit a while and the new owner decided he did not like it after rebuilding the top end of the engine and a number of other things. I was a bit nervous letting go of a simi-custom fairly new Honda (see picture) when I realized I made the correct choice.
Since the engine was new, I was running about 60 mph on the interstate when a biker blew past on his newer Electra Glide. He gave the customary wave as he went by, the he checked his mirrors-- did a double take-- and turned looking back nodding his head and shacking his fist. That is the moment that I knew I owned something special. As I said earlier, I have owned 3 other HDs (02,05,06) and never had anybody react like that.
Kind of like riding down Main St in a Ford Mustang--- which gets the most attention? The new 2010 models or the 1968 origional? The newer may have better gadgets and more "flash", THEY DO LOOK A LOT LIKE EACH OTHER---but the older models gets the respect from those that know.

Put it this way; S&S, RevTech and Ultima all build EVO clone engines (among others). How many engine builders are rushing out TCs since the patent expired?
