Imagine you put the biggest hose in the world, into the smallest swimming pool in the world, because you wanted to keep it filled up.

What do you think would happen?

My '86 had only a stock 22 amp system that was failing under any load.

Upgraded to what is now a stock standard on many bikes with a 32 amp system.

I do know they come larger than that, but the 32 amp was affordable ... with correct rotor, stator, and voltage regulator all matched this system works well.

Do you have a voltage meter on that bike to check your output?

Any idea what size came standard on your bike?

And don't overlook the battery. Some last 6 years and some crap in the first season.

Welcome to HDF. Asking what the biggest system available is when you haven't checked what you have, or that it is working properly isn't a good place from which to start asking questions! You may find you have a 32amp system that is the probably the biggest you can get on your bike and should be enough for most of us.

If you don't have one find yourself a factory service manual (I wish we got a dime for every time we tell newcomers that) and do some basic tests on your system. The book will tell you what you should have, help you work out what you actually have, and how to check if it is working.

Come back and let us know what you find.

I have a 96 FLHTCU. The 32 amp stator is on my bike. According to the service manual the police bikes in 96 had a 38 amp system. I think the 38 amp became standard in 97.

I read on a post here somewhere that the cycle electric systems were very good. They make a wide variety of systems for our bikes.
