Default quieter with quick install pushrods

Anybody else notice this? My 99 EVO has always been very quiet, and I have a windshield on it most of the time, and wear a helmet. But after I changed out the cam brg. (which was still in good shape), and installed the quick install pushrods, I can barely hear anything coming from the engine. I did keep the stock cam, just because it runs so well I could not see a reason for changing it. About all I hear now is the drag pipes which I do have homeade baffles in. The only thing I can attribute this to is the adjustable pushrods. Maybe the Torrington brg. runs quieter. Just wondering.

Can I ask you which pushrods have you used? It's nice to hear that the bike runs better with the new ones and sure it helps to know if this is an attribute of them.

Thanks,

I used the Harley #17987-98A Screaming Eagle adjustable pushrods. I have no idea why it seems to run quieter. Can't really see the pushrods making any difference, unless they load the lifters a little more than the stock ones.

When I installed mine they became very loud a week or so later. I discovered that I had forgotten to tighten one of the locknuts! Doh!

The stock pushrods are aluminum, and many adjustable pushrods are chromoly, which is much harder and stiffer than aluminum - and from what I have read will generally be noisier, not quieter, than stock pushrods. I don't know about the SE adjustables... but I would think they would be chromoly, too.

Maybe you just adjusted your rods really well, and your lifters are running right in the middle of the hydraulic range (where they should).... or maybe the stock rods were running just a bit loose due to valve and rocker arm wear?

I didn't notice any difference when I installed the chromoly adjustables I run now, but I went to the Velva-Touch lifters and the EVL-3010 cam at the same time. Bertha's cam chest and valvetrain are very quiet now, but I really can't say if it's any quieter than everything was before the swap. Didn't think to listen to before and after at the time...

Yep; The Screaming Eagle quick install push rods are chrome moly. Maybe it is just because I changed oil at the same time I did the work. Anyhow, it does seem quieter for some reason. It wasn't noisy before, it just seems quieter now. Thought maybe someone else noticed this also.

Yes, I ordered this kit off ebay over a month ago. Be advised that the "REVTECH STYLE, EASY INSTALL, ADJUSTABLE PUSHRODS" are in reality the Maddog Racing pushrods, they're not actually REVTECH. Also, the hydraulic tappet lifters are the "Street Performance" lifters. After the less than glowing feedback I read on this site and other sites, about the Maddog pushrods and Street Performance lifters, I purchased the Screamin Eagle Quick Install Pushrods and HD "B" tappet lifters from Zanotti's. Am selling the Maddog and Street Performance stuff on ebay now. The cam and gaskets that came with the kit look ok.

I think that any noise produced is more from the cam and lifters than it is from the pushrods... or from the upper end - rocker arms, valves. Aggressive ramps on the cam - like the EV-27 - will produce more noise than stock cams or less-aggressive cams like the V-Thunder cams.
